OrthoCarolina, Atrium Health Providers Lead Key Presentations at AOSSM
Over the weekend of March 31 in Nashville, Carolina Panthers team physicians were part of a meeting of the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM) that focused on football and sports medicine at all levels from youth to the National Football League (NFL). The conference was designed to provide the most up-to-date medical solutions in the management of football athletes in a team sport setting, including areas that can be controversial, in order to provide guidance in the management of similar problems.
Team physicians for the Carolina Panthers from both OrthoCarolina and partner Atrium Health led presentations at the meeting, highlighting their work with the team and the NFL. OrthoCarolina Sports Medicine physician Dr. Patrick Connor talked about management of clavicle fractures and medicolegal considerations in sports medicine, and his fellow Sports Medicine physician Dr. Durham Weeks was a moderator for presentations about athletic hip injuries and led breakout sessions teaching clinical diagnosis of athletic hip injuries.
Dr. Robert Heyer, Atrium Health, was on a panel discussing the relationships and experiences of NFL team physicians and athletic trainers, and Dr. Nancy Gritter, Atrium Health, and Ryan Vermillion, Panthers head athletic trainer, were also participants in the meeting.
