OrthoCarolina offers competitive internships that provide valuable hands-on experience as well as shadowing opportunities for students seeking to gain hours under the supervision of one of our practitioners.
STUDENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Program Overview:
OrthoCarolina offers a competitive program that provides interns with valuable hands-on experience in an orthopedic work environment, both clinical and administrative, to gain a firsthand understanding of day-to-day tasks and responsibilities. Interested interns should demonstrate a commitment to excellence and to making lives better under OrthoCarolina mentorship.
All interested students should have a school representative contact studentprograms@orthocarolina.com to plan their internship experience.
Internship Opportunities:
- MD, PA, DPT, PT, PTA, OT, OTA, OT Level II, ATC, CMA, RMA, EMT, Rad Techs/X-Ray, MRI, etc.
- Interns have flexibility on their hours and time frames for rotation, internship, or externship
Requirements:
- Must be 18 or older
- Have an active school affiliation agreement with OrthoCarolina
- Students must first secure a host (OrthoCarolina employee) as a mentor or preceptor to participate
- If necessary, the school is required to coordinate Atrium and Novant operating room privileging prior to the student’s educational experience with OrthoCarolina.
Onboarding Process:
- Students must submit a completed onboarding packet prior to their start date
- Covid-19 vaccination is only required for the Mallard Creek Surgery Center location
- Each OrthoCarolina employee hosting a student will connect with the student prior to the start date to provide scheduling information, directions, required dress attire, parking information, etc.
- OrthoCarolina students are to wear their school ID badge while on-site

- All interns should be coming for school-related credit such as a clinical rotation, externship, residency, or similar setup via their institution or program
- OrthoCarolina offers unpaid internship opportunities
- The program or school each student represents is liable for the student and their actions
STUDENT SHADOWING PROGRAM
Program Overview:
Our Student Shadowing program is designed for those students seeking to gain hours under the supervision of an OrthoCarolina professional in their field of study. These can be for independent study or high school.
Shadowing Opportunities:
- MD, PA, PT, PTA, OT, OTA, ATC, etc.
Requirements:
- Must be 16 or older
- For all students under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign a consent for participation and sign off on all student compliance documentation.
- Students must first secure a host (OrthoCarolina employee) as a mentor or preceptor to participate
- Students are responsible for finding their own OC Host. A contact list will not be provided.
- If necessary, the school is required to coordinate Atrium and Novant operating room privileging prior to the student’s educational experience with OrthoCarolina.
- All interested students should contact studentprograms@orthocarolina.com to plan their shadowing experience.
