Although "tennis elbow" is the most common and well-known symptomatic condition of the elbow, there are numerous other elbow problems and conditions that can be successfully diagnosed and treated. Our specialists at OrthoCarolina provide the Southeast’s most advanced and comprehensive program dedicated to the evaluation and management of problems related to the elbow.
Although the operative management of some elbow conditions requires standard surgical incisions (i.e. fractures, fracture-dislocations, total elbow replacement for arthritis), many elbow conditions can be treated with arthroscopic surgery, a minimally invasive technique popularized with the management of knee and shoulder conditions. Arthroscopic surgery enables the surgeon to successfully treat the underlying condition while allowing the patient the benefit of smaller incisions, less pain, less bleeding, less scarring, outpatient surgery and earlier return to work and other activities (i.e. sport, recreation).
Total elbow replacement has reached the same standards of success as its predecessors in hip, knee and shoulder replacements and represents a tremendously successful treatment option for patients with severe elbow pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis, post-traumatic arthritis and many other complex elbow conditions. Patients enjoy remarkable alleviation of pain and restoration of elbow function and, due to many technical advancements, the implant’s longevity statistically compares to that of hip, knee and shoulder replacements.
